Music of New Year Festival Kicks Off

Gisborne's first night of New Year partying got off to a bang as more than 11,000 people rocked to BW camping festival's headline act Shapeshifter.
Day one of BW heralds the first night of the New Year celebrations in a week-long action-filled week of music and partying in Gisborne.
Eight security staff stood their ground at the barriers in front of the stage when the five-piece drum and bass band emerged at 10pm and yelled What's up Gisborne?
Everyone swarmed towards the moshpit from the embankment at the Awapuni Soundshell. BW managing director Toby Burrows expects another 1000 people to arrive today. "Everything has been running nicely and the feedback from people has been very positive," he said. We have more people here this year - our biggest festival to date.
BW was the first event this summer to try out the new AWOP wristbands, which allow the carrier to buy food and drink using the chip in their wristband.
An accreditation spokesman said there were only a few problems with camping passes as some people tried to gain entry to the festival with someone else's tickets.People who received their AWOP wristbands under someone else's accreditation had their chips frozen, said the spokesman.Waiting times are a lot faster this year with quicker processing systems in place. Mr Burrows said people were waiting no longer than half an hour to receive their passes. "By 10am we had processed 4000 people and most campers were checked in by mid-afternoon," he said. Queenstown's Tom Gurlay is on his first summer vacation in Gisborne and so far it has been more than he expected it to be. "It is so hot here, it is pretty hard to adjust to this climate," he says.

Tonight the BW festival continues with Waikato-based Katchafire as the headline act.

Adele Named Top Artist of The Year by Billboard History

British singer Adele made Billboard history on Friday when she became the first female singer to be named top artist, have the top album, "21," and score the top single, "Rolling in the Deep," all in one year.
The 23-year-old chanteuse was followed in the top artist group by No. 2 Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga in that order, while Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Bruno Mars rounded out the top ten.
"I think one of the things that sets me apart from other artists who have had the same kind of success is that my life isn't speculated about" by the media, Adele said in an interview with Billboard.
Tye Comer, editor of Billboard.com, attributed Adele's success to her being a "breath of fresh air" in a market saturated with pop artists cut from a "certain cloth," like Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

"Her success is really inspiring because it shows that there is still room in the music industry for an artist to make it with true, raw talent," Comer told Reuters.

"It's not necessarily always about the outrageous outfits or flashy videos, but an amazing voice coupled with the right song still has the ability to turn the ears of millions of people and keep them interested," he said.

Adele's smash hit album "21," which was described by Billboard's Julianne Escobedo Shepherd as a "break-up requiem," was written in the aftermath of the singer's failed relationship, and it features underlying themes of love, heartache and moving forward.
"I'm incredibly private but I'm also incredibly honest, and I think that creates a kind of 'meet in the middle' respectable ground," said the singer.

The singer's rousing soul and blues-fused single "Rolling in the Deep," which was named the No. 1 song, beat pop and dance tracks like LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," Katy Perry's "Firework" and "E.T." featuring Kanye West, as well as Pitbull's "Give Me Everything."

Ex Miss USA was Above Legal Alcohol Limit

Ex Miss USA Rima Fakih was speeding and weaving through traffic with an uncorked, half-empty bottle of champagne and a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit when she was arrested in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park, according to a police report released Tuesday.
The report on her drunken-driving arrest obtained by The Associated Press through a Freedom of Information Act request says the 26-year-old from Dearborn was pulled over early Saturday going 60 mph, weaving in heavy traffic and changing lanes without using a turn signal.
A police officer whose name was given only as R. Kalis said the traffic stop happened about 2:15 a.m. The report says she was driving a black 2011 Jaguar.
Kalis reported asking for the driver's license said the "driver immediately identified herself as Miss USA and stated that she was driving a friend's car."
Kalis said Fakih "appeared disoriented and had very slurred speech while fumbling for her purse." Kalis asked Fakih if she had been drinking, and she said, "No, not at all." In the report, officers said they found an open and half-empty bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne on the floorboard behind the driver's seat.
"I swear, I didn't know it was open," Fakih told Kalis, according to the report. Two breath tests showed a 0.19 percent and a 0.20 percent blood-alcohol level. Michigan law defines drunkenness at a level of 0.08 percent.
The report said Fakih was handcuffed and taken to a police station. It said she was placed in a cell "until she was sober for her safety and the safety of others." Police said they seized Fakih's driver's license and issued her a temporary license. She was ordered to report to court within 10 days. Besides drunken driving, Fakih also faces charges of possessing an open intoxicant in a motor vehicle and careless driving.
Phone and email messages seeking comment were left Tuesday for Fakih's lawyer, Doraid Elder. Email messages also were left for Fakih on Monday and Tuesday.

Goodbye To DEV ANAND By Bollywood Says

Vivek Oberoi Dev Anand was my father's hero, he was the reason my father came to Mmumbai to become an actor. I grew up listening to stories about him from dad and spent father-son bonding evenings watching Devsaab's films. Nothing brought a smile to my father's face like a Dev Anand song! But what is most special thing is that when dad was struggling to be an actor, Devsaab met him, encouraged him and gave him so much love and blessings. And after dad became a success he called him home, encouraged and mentored him, inspired him to keep reaching for the sky! A generation later, in my struggling days, I received a call from him. In just that one meeting, he instilled so much faith, strength and belief in me! Inspired me just like he had inspired my father almost 30years before me. And when my first film Company became a hit, he called me over to congratulate me and bless me. I'll never forget how he hugged me and said, "Son, work hard but always remember to enjoy your work. Success and failure will come and go...but most of all, remember to celebrate life...every moment is precious!

Ajay Devgn Dev Saab's unique style and his undying passion for cinema will always inspire us. His demise is a huge loss to the industry.

David Dhawan He was one of the most romantic heroes and directors I ever knew. I had been meeting him on and off but I remember one incident while shooting in Mauritius for Bade Miya Chote Miya with Amitji, Govinda and Madhuri for a song on the beach. Suddenly there was a commotion and all of them ran crying 'Devsaab has come!' We all met exactly for five minutes but the energy he exuded was mazing! He was magnetic. What I admore most about him was that he died with his shoes on and I would like to do that too. Devsaab has gone away but he given us a library of films to go on. He is my hero. I would go to watch his films in black. What modern films he made. God bless his soul.

Sanjay Dutt Devsaab was very close to my mom and dad. He was at Breach Candy when I was born. He named his son Sunil after my dad, such was their friendship. Whenever I dubbed in Anand Dubbing studio, I made it a point to meet Devsaab. He gave me his autobiography, signed the first page and kissed my forehead! I remember all these words he spoke a year back! God bless his soul...

Aamir Khan Indian cinema has lost one of its biggest stars. Dev Sahab was a force of creative energy. A man of immense charisma and charm. He was an icon for many generations. His passing away is a sad loss to all lovers of Indian cinema. My heartfelt condolences to all in the family.

Sonam Kapoor He was the hero of my fav film guide. And his songs were something that dad and me bonded over while watching. He was my fathers favorite actor.

Anil Kapoor I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Dev Saab passing away. Over the years it seemed as if Devsaab had figured out the formula for agelessness. Now that he is no more the words 'ever green' don't seem synonymous with anyone, anymore. I spoke to him quite recently during the release of his film Chargesheet. He sounded exuberant and cheerful gearing up for his next venture. Maybe that is meant for the Gods now. Devsaab - I will miss you.

Karan Johar My father had worked with Dev Saab for over 10 years, so I grew up hearing about the legendary actor. When I first met him as a child, my father asked me to touch his feet. I still remember Dev Saab looked at me and said, "Never bend son. Shake my hand... you're a gentleman just like me!" I was all of eight, but I can never erase the dynamism of DEV ANAND. Legends don't die... they just exit the present leaving behind a past that the future can embibe!!
